Common EV charging questions answered
A Level 2 charger uses a 240V outlet (NEMA 14-50) to charge your EV 8x faster than the Level 1 cable that came with your car. Level 1 adds about 5-8 km of range per hour. Level 2 adds 40-50 km per hour. If you drive daily, a Level 2 charger is essential for overnight charging.
View product →A portable charger plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet (same as a dryer outlet) - no electrician needed. You can take it to the cottage, RV parks, or a friend's house. A wall-mount charger is hardwired permanently by an electrician. It offers more power (up to 50A/12kW), WiFi monitoring, and a cleaner installation. We recommend starting with a portable charger and adding a wall-mount later if needed.
NACS (North American Charging Standard) is Tesla's connector that most automakers are now adopting. If you have a J1772 charger and want to charge a Tesla or other NACS vehicle, you need a J1772-to-NACS adapter. Our adapter is 80A rated and cETLus certified.
View product →cETLus means the product has been tested and certified by Intertek (ETL) for both Canada and the USA. The 'c' means Canada, 'US' means United States. It is equivalent to UL certification. All our chargers carry this certification, which is required for electrical products sold in North America.
Yes. A NEMA 14-50 is a 240V outlet commonly used for electric dryers and RV hookups. If you already have one in your garage, just plug in. If not, an electrician can install one for $200-500 depending on your panel location. This is much cheaper than a full hardwired charger installation.
Yes. Our portable and wall-mount chargers use the J1772 (Type 1) connector, which is the universal standard for Level 2 charging in North America. It works with every non-Tesla EV. For Tesla and NACS vehicles, add our J1772-to-NACS adapter ($89) for full compatibility.
